Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the us

What Is hawkbudget ?

HawkBudget reads your worklogs from JIRA and creates helpful reports that easily show if you are on budget.

HawkBudget is not a time-tracking tool.

This means that your worklogs are safely stored in JIRA and they will be there even if you decide to stop using HawkBudget.

Is HawkBudget compatible with external time trackers?

HawkBudget reads your worklogs from JIRA.
Therefore, if you use an alternative time tracking tool and not JIRA's default one, HawkBudget may not work.

If you use an alternative time tracking tool, you need to find out if it logs your worklogs on its own servers without updating JIRA's servers. In such a case, HawkBudget will not work, which also means that you have lost ownership of your worklogs. If you stop using that specific time-tracking tool, you will not have access to your old worklogs.

If you do not want to use JIRA's time tracking, make sure you find a time tracker that updates JIRA's worklogs too, so that you own your worklogs and HawkBudget will also work.

Which time tracker am I using?

To find out which time-tracking tool you are using :

  • Go to your JIRA Administration and find the Issues configuration, then select the Time tracking tab.

  • Check the Time tracking provider.

If the value is not "JIRA provided time tracking", then you are using an alternate time tracker.

Where are my worklogs saved?

HawkBudget reads your worklogs from JIRA and creates helpful reports that easily show if you are on budget.
This means that your worklogs are safely stored in JIRA and they will be there even if you decide to stop using HawkBudget.

Nevertheless, if you are using an alternate time tracker, that time tracker may not save your worklogs on JIRA's servers.
In that case HawkBudget will not work, since it will not be able to find your worklogs.

To find out if your time tracker stores your worklogs on JIRA or not, follow the steps below:

  • Go to any project and run the report "Time Tracking Report"

  • Write down the "Time spent" numbers.

  • Then log a few hours in a project's story

  • Return to the report and re-run it

If the numbers are not increased, your time tracker is not updating JIRA. It only stores your worklogs on its own servers.
This means that HawkBudget cannot work with your time tracker and it also means that your worklogs are only saved on the time-tracking company's servers.
